The knockout provider used by a studio can be adjusted for maximum flexibility in testing different providers.

At the user level, the background knockout provider can be updated to override the original default for new session templates or sessions.

If you'd like the default to be changed (e.g. from Fotomerchant Instant Knockouts to 36pix Cloud Knockouts [BETA]), please reach out to the support team in Slack to update this in the backend of your account.

We'd love to see our customers give the new 36pix Cloud Knockouts (BETA) a good test before trying it out in the field – we think it's a great tool!

Override Knockout Provider used for a Session or Session Template

If a studio has the Knockout Provider Choice credential enabled (discuss with the support team in your Slack channel), the Override Knockout Provider setting will appear in the Studio section when creating or editing a Session or a Session Template:

To adjust this setting:

1. Either click the cog icon next to the session name and select Edit, or enter the session and click the gray Edit button in the top right corner of the screen.
2. Scroll down to the Fotomerchant Studio settings section and select your choice of knockout provider from the options listed next to Override Knockout Provider.
3. Scroll down and click the green Save button.

Important Information

• The default studio knockout provider type in the Backend is shown after the “Default account option” label. If a studio’s default knockout provider is changed in the Backend by your support team, this label will update automatically to reflect the current studio knockout provider.
• If the knockout provider is overridden for a Session, all future knockouts performed for that session will use the selected knockout provider. This setting is not retrospective and will not affect previous work.
• If the knockout provider is overridden for a Session Template, all future sessions created using the session template will have the template-level knockout provider set accordingly. Changing the override knockout provider for a session template has no impact on existing sessions previously created using a Session Template.
• When the 36Pix Cloud Knockouts (BETA) option is used for a session (either due to a studio override setting or when the 36Pix knockout provider is set as the studio’s default knockout provider), a light blue “About 36Pix Cloud Knockouts” informational section will appear with important details about 36Pix Cloud Knockouts.

Note: It is important that studios are aware of the limitations of the 36Pix Cloud Knockouts system before actively using it, to improve studio satisfaction and decrease customer service issues for the studio and Fotomerchant. 36Pix Cloud Knockouts is currently in active development and use of it is only recommended under the following conditions: Portrait style photography on flat background colours such as green, red, blue. Torso and above, not suitable for full body shots. Natural backgrounds are not currently supported. Images must at minimum be 513 pixels on the short edge or larger.

Knockout Provider in Session Details

If a studio has the Knockout Provider Choice credential enabled, each session’s knockout provider is shown in the Session Details area as seen in the following screenshots.

If the knockout provider is overridden in a Session or Template, the Override label will appear:

If the knockout provider has not been overridden, the Default label will appear instead:

Reviewing details for a knocked out image

When Fotomerchant conducts the knockout process for the Studio, details of the knocked out images can be reviewed within your Commerce account.

Note: This does not apply to images that are already knocked out when uploaded by the Studio into Fotomerchant.

1. Navigate to the Clients & Sessions > Sessions area of the left menu panel.

2. Click on a desired Session.

Reviewing knockouts for a Subject

1. Navigate to the Subjects tab within the Session.

2. Click on the Gallery link next to a Subject record.

3. Double-click on an image listed with the gallery.

4. Scroll down the page to review the “Knockout Properties” section.
