This article is a simple overview of how to get started creating your first template. For use as an example, we will show how to create a template for a standard ID card, however, the process is the same regardless of the style of template you select.
Basic process for an ID card template

Important: Throughout the stages of creating your design, ensure that you check on your progress by toggling the Show Preview on/off button towards the top right of the window. It's a great way to double check and confirm that all the components are coming together as you expect. |
- Load the session on Studio as normal and then select the Editor button from the left panel.
- Press the green + New Template button in the top right corner. This opens the Editor.
- The Editor automatically opens with the Properties menu displayed. Under the Template Properties panel, select the ID Card option from the Size Presets list.
- Click the Data tab from the left menu panel.
- Start with adding an Image Node. Click and drag the Image Node across to the template.
- Choose the type of image. Under Element Properties on the right-side panel, click Select an image... and pick from the list, in this case, choose the Primary Image.
- Decide if you will use the Original or a Knockout version, which Crop and/or Pose will be applied, and if you will include a background to the image.
- To size the Image Node, click and pull the blue size handles on the Image Node manually. Alternatively, you can fill out the details under Element Properties on the right panel. The easiest method is to select the size using the Ratio Presets.
- Click and drag the Image Node into position.
- Guidelines are provided that will assist you in positioning any elements. These can be grouped together in so that, if necessary, they can be moved as a single entity.

- Scroll along the Subject Properties on the left panel and click & drag Subject Name. This will be a combination of both the subject's first and last names. Stretch to fit.
- Repeat the process for Subject Grade and Subject Teacher. Position as appropriate.
- To add a student ID in the form of a barcode, click & drag the Subject ID from the list. While still selected, click the font button above and use the search bar to find "Barcode". Make a choice from the options available. Position.
Important: You must add a Starting and Ending * to the Text Node:
e.g. *{{subject.cafeteriaId}}*
- Now add the school name. To do this, scroll down the left panel to Client Properties and click & drag Client Name.
- Click & drag another Image Node on to the template . However, this time choose Client Logo instead of Primary Image when you press the Select as image... button.
- Add a basic background by selecting the Background tab from the far left panel. Select a color or search for an image. We have thousands of options available.
- Make color changes to the fields on your design to best suit the background choice.
- To save, go back to the Properties tab, ensure you've added a name to the top/middle box of the window, and then click the Save button in the top left of the window.

Note: Blocks of static text can also be added to a design. "Static text" means that it is not directly connected to subject data unless an Advanced Rule is in place.
