Tether Modes dictate how a Capture device interacts with your camera.
Continuous Tether mode is the default and recommended mode as it is more reliable and gives instant information whilst shooting. In this mode, the Capture device will maintain a continuous connection to the camera through the USB connection, which allows images to be copied as soon as they are taken with real-time information to be displayed on the Reader screen.
However, some older model cameras do not allow you to use the camera normally when the camera detects a tether device plugged into the USB port. So we created a mode to help...
In Sync on Scan mode, the Capture device will remain physically plugged into the camera, but it will only cause the camera to enter tethered capture mode when the Reader is used to activate the barcode/QR code scanner. We assume that you are not using your camera at the same time as scanning IDs, so this is the time that we use to copy images from the last session. As soon as the images are copied, Capture will exit tethered capture mode and the camera will return to normal.
|
Note: Since Capture cannot maintain a constant connection to the camera, we are unable to display the number of 'Pics' in real-time; images will only be copied from the camera at the completion of a session. |
Setting your Tether Mode
- Open the Console, click on the Devices tab on the top banner of the Console and select the relevant device.
- You are now on the Device Page and can access the Device Settings section at the bottom of the Page. Tether Mode is one of the configurable settings under Device Settings. You can choose between Continuous and Sync on Scan. To change the setting, click the text, select the correct option and click the green tick to confirm.
|
Note: Changing Tether Modes will initiate a reboot of the Capture device. When it comes back online, it will be in the newly configured Tether Mode. You will need to reconnect the Reader. |
Using Sync on Scan with Photo First
In this configuration, the orange Camera light on the Capture device will not be turned on and the reader will display a question mark under the number of Pics. Don't panic, just roll with it.
To start a session, take a photo (the number of Pics on the Reader screen will not change and the images will not appear in the Console).
To end a session, scan an ID. The Capture device will connect to the camera and transfer the new images. While the connection is active, the orange Camera light on the device will light up. The Reader will beep and buzz to indicate a successful read, and the number of IDs scanned will increase. You can still scan more IDs to send that session of photos to more IDs but you cannot add any more photos to that session.
Take a photo to start a new subject session. The Reader screen will not update again until you scan an ID.
|
Note: Remember to scan one final ID before shutting down the Walker. This will trigger the transfer of the final batch of images. |
Using Sync on Scan with Scan First
In this configuration, the orange Camera light on the Capture device will not be turned on and the reader will display a question mark under the number of Pics.
To start a session, scan an ID. The Reader will beep and buzz to indicate a successful read, and the number of IDs scanned will increase. If you want the following photos to be sent to more than one ID, scan the additional IDs now before you start taking photos. Once you start taking photos, no more IDs can be added to the current session.
After scanning the necessary IDs, every photo taken until you scan a new ID will be added to the current session. However, the number of Pics on the Reader screen will not change and the images will not appear in the Console.
Scan a new ID to end the session and begin a new session. The Capture device will connect to the camera and transfer the images. While the connection is active, the orange Camera light on the device will light up.
